Ethereum ETFs Record $320 Million in Weekly Outflows
The weekly bleed from Ethereum ETFs was not spread evenly. Three sessions alone accounted for the bulk of the damage: Oct. 14 saw $129.5 million exit, followed by $60.3 million on Oct. 15 and $69.7 million on Oct. 16, totaling $259.5 million across just those three days. One fund dominated the exodus. BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) accounted for $299 million, or 93.4%, of the total weekly Ether ETF outflow. Fidelity’s Ethereum fund ran against the grain, posting $10.5 million in inflows over the same period. For related coverage, see Bitcoin & XRP Slide as US PPI Inflation Hits 6.3%.
It is worth separating the signal from the noise here. ETF outflows represent fund redemptions, where authorized participants return shares to the issuer in exchange for the underlying asset or cash. That process does not guarantee an equivalent amount of ETH is immediately sold on spot exchanges, which is why Ethereum’s broader ecosystem does not always move in lockstep with ETF flow headlines.
ETH was trading at $2,414.66 at the time of writing, down 0.74% over the prior 24 hours, with a market capitalization near $294.9 billion.
Bitcoin Outflows Slow, Creating a Diverging ETF Flow Picture
While Ethereum ETFs bled out, Bitcoin fund withdrawals were decelerating. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $228.4 million in net outflows over the same five-session window, roughly $91.7 million less than the Ethereum total.
Slowing outflows are not inflows. Bitcoin ETFs were still seeing net redemptions during this period; the pace simply moderated compared to prior weeks. That distinction matters when reading the divergence as a signal of relative investor conviction. This pattern has a precedent in broader macro-level shifts in crypto allocation that have played out across ETF products this year.
The combined five-session outflow across both asset classes crossed $548 million, a meaningful week for institutional redemption activity even by the volatile standards of spot crypto ETFs.
What These ETF Flow Trends Could Mean for Ethereum Investors
Fund flows are one indicator. They reflect short-term positioning decisions by institutional and large retail participants, but they do not dictate where price goes next. The Crypto Fear and Greed Index sat at 53, classified as Neutral, suggesting the broader market has not yet swung into the fear territory that has historically preceded capitulation selling.
The concentration of Ethereum outflows in ETHA is a variable worth tracking. When a single product accounts for 93.4% of category-wide redemptions, the behavior of one large authorized participant or institutional block can distort the week’s headline figure significantly. A single week does not establish a trend.
The ETF landscape continues to evolve. The expansion of spot crypto ETF products beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum means capital rotation between funds is becoming a more common institutional lever. Whether Ethereum ETFs see a reversal in the sessions ahead, or whether Bitcoin’s slowdown in outflows tips into inflows, will sharpen the picture considerably. The divergence this week is a data point; the next two weeks will tell you whether it is a pattern.
